Walkthrough

How to use IsMyStoreVisible

A step-by-step walkthrough: which address to paste, how to read the traffic light and the score, and how to apply each fix on Shopify, WooCommerce or a hand-built site.

5 min read·Updated

The whole thing takes about ten seconds and needs nothing from you but a web address. The part worth learning is how to read the result, and in what order to act on it.

The six steps

  1. Paste one product page address, not your home page. The home page rarely carries product details, so a scan of it can only tell you about access and the basics. Paste the address of a single product you actually sell — the page a shopper would land on — and you get all five checks.
  2. Read the traffic light before the number. Not visible means something is stopping assistants outright. Partly visible means they can reach you but will describe you badly. Looking good means nothing is in the way. The score out of ten tells you how far off you are; it is not the headline.
  3. Check the four assistant tiles. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini each get a tile. A cross means that assistant is being turned away. An exclamation mark means it can list you but not read your pages properly. A tick means it is fine.
  4. Fix the issues in the order given. They are ranked by what they cost you, worst first. Fixing number one is usually worth more than fixing two through five together, because an assistant that cannot open your store cannot be helped by better product details.
  5. Open an issue, then open the code. Tap an issue to see why it costs you money. Tap "Show the detail and the code" to get the exact lines to paste, already filled in with your own values where we could read them.
  6. Re-run it after you deploy. Nothing is stored, so just paste the address again. The scan reads your live site, so the change has to be deployed — not just saved in your theme editor.

Reading the dashboard

Four things sit above the issue list, and they answer four different questions.

What you seeWhat it answers
Traffic lightCan assistants use my store at all?
Score out of tenHow far from good is it?
Assistant tilesWhich specific assistants are affected?
Score breakdownWhich area is dragging the score down?

A check that reads not checked was not scored at all — it is left out of the sum rather than counted as zero. A site that was too slow gets a smaller, honest score rather than a fake bad one.

The “more insights” button

Everything that does not belong in a first read lives behind it: every finding rather than the top five, how serious each one is, the numbers behind the score, the verdict for each individual AI agent, a list of every document we fetched, and the raw output of each check. If you are handing this to a developer, that is the section to send them.

Applying the fixes

Shopify

Robots rules live in robots.txt.liquid, which you add under Edit code → Templates → Add a new template → robots.txt. Product data usually comes from your theme, so paste corrected markup into your product template rather than into a single page.

WooCommerce and WordPress

Most SEO plugins own your robots.txt and your product markup, so change it there rather than uploading a file — otherwise the plugin overwrites you on the next update.

Hand-built sites

Put robots.txt at the site root, and the product markup in the <head> of each product page. Re-run the scan after deploying, not after saving.

Questions

Which page should I check?
A single product page gives the most useful result, because it is the only kind of page that carries prices and stock. Check your home page too if you want to know whether assistants can reach your site at all.
Why did it say it could not compare my prices?
We read your page as text and never run its scripts, which is close to what an AI assistant does. If your price is written in by JavaScript after the page loads, we cannot see it — and that is worth knowing, because assistants often cannot either.
Why does it only show five issues?
Because a list of twenty gets ignored. The five shown are the ones costing you the most; everything else sits behind "more insights", in order, whenever you want the full list.
How many scans can I run?
Ten an hour from the same connection. That is enough to check a few pages and re-check after a fix, without letting anyone point the scanner at a site as a weapon.
Do you store my results?
No. There is no database and no account. The result exists for the length of the request and disappears when you close the tab, which is also why reloading re-runs the scan.

If you want to know exactly what the scanner requests from your site and why, that is on how it works.
